ATMs – Sponsorship and Agent Bank Labeling

There are an estimated 400,000 ATM in the United States, only about 20% are owned, cash loaded and operated by financial institutions. Since 2004, a considerable amount of time, effort and money has been spent on issues revolving around ATM Risk, more than in the entire 30-year history of the ATM.
This includes:
  • ATM encryption upgrades to Triple Data Encryption Standard (T-DES)
  • Testing, certification and replaced of Encrypting PIN PADS (ATM EPP’s)
  • The documentation and due diligence of actual owners of ATM and      ATM Cash, the ATM Operator/Owner Agreements mandated by ATM Networks and the “know your customer” mandates of the Patriot Act

Prepaid, Stored Value and Debit Cards

In 2007, debit transactions exceeded credit transactions with over 14 billion Prepaid cards issued, representing more than $700 billion dollars. This is not a passing trend; it is an evolutionary way of how money (cash and checks) is more expediently changing hands.

It is about replacing a 100 year old system that moves a piece of paper 8,000 miles in 5 days, to a innovative system that moves the same transaction in less than a second, but more than that, the amount is preauthorized and held for settlement.
